NINGAS-BAO: The Positive Alternative

Many times we hear others say, “We hope that we will be committed enough to make these things happen, else it’s just a ningas-kugon.”

Ningas-kugon is a popular norm existing in our society today. It continues to rot many existing organizations as well as individuals. It is a negative concept which means that what an organization, a group or an individual has been planned or started will not progress or will not be finished on time.

Literally, ningas-kugon means the burning of the cogon, a variety of grass which burns fast.

Let’s take a look at ourselves. Most of us plan and decide about a project that we think can help us gain prestige, promotion, power, or perhaps profit. But many times, it becomes futile when we stop pursuing it or no one cooperates actively nor commits to make things possible and successful. Yes, we waste our time and effort in planning and starting a project or activity, but all of them go pfft... It’s all because of our ningas-kugon attitude. It’s time to get rid of it.

There are many factors that affect the successful pursuit of our plans. Time, effort, money, people, materials, etc. But it all takes a good time management and serious commitment to turn those ordinary projects into a resounding success.

Now is a perfect time to change our ningas-kugon attitude and replace it with a positive approach. It’s time to erase ningas-kugon in our vocabulary and replace it with the more positive ningas-bao.

Ningas-bao? Yes, you can burn cogon and it gone in second, but not bao, a dried coconut shell. It takes a longer time for a bao to be burned and it’s very useful. You can cook rice using bao as its flame, while at the same time cooking a barbeque. Then, after that, you can also heat water in a kettle. The product of burned bao is a charcoal.

Individually one should finish his work on time with quality and in the most effective and most efficient manner. That’s the concept of ningas-bao, the positive alternative to ningas-kugon.

It’s time to correct our paths. It’s time to put a stop in the rotten concept of ningas-kugon. It’s time to pursue our plans for the future. It’s time to propagate ningas-bao. Yes, in it lies success in every endeavor.
